Mario Pineida, the experienced left-back for Barcelona Sporting Club, was killed in an armed attack on Wednesday afternoon, December 17, 2025, in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

​Details of the Incident
​Location: The attack took place in the Samanes 4 neighborhood, in northern Guayaquil, outside a butcher shop/refrigeration facility.

​Method: According to the National Police and witnesses, two individuals on motorcycles opened fire on a group of people.

​Casualties: Pineida, 33, died at the scene. He was reportedly with his mother and another woman at the time of the attack. At least one other person was killed in the incident.
